• Hi!

It is already the end of this semester in Erasmus in Lancaster! Time has gone so fast! This experience is unforgettable and will remain etched in my memory. I met so many great people, friends that I look forward to see again and that I already miss. Even if it was not easy all the time, memories that remain me are only positives. I loved living in roommate this semester with my French friends from ESDES: Simon and Lucile and I will miss our little life in Clarence House...

It was great to see how the courses were held in England and the involvement of teachers was impressive. I enjoyed the 3 courses I had chosen but the one  I liked the most, it surprised me a lot, is the one of International Economics. Indeed, despite the fact that in France I do not like economy, here I liked the program, but even more the report we had to do and get back (this one counted to validate the course). We had for this one to write a report about the economic situation of a country in the world as if this report was an article for The Economist. It had to be 2500 words long. Into it, we had to analyse briefly the country's economic history and explain how it arrived to its position of now. We had also to appraise a contemporary international issue that our chosen country was facing, from an economic perspective, and indicate the likely impact of this issue on the country’s economic future. Finally we had to use economic theories as tools to analyse the issue of our chosen country from a global perspective and find solutions to this issue. The country I chose was Chile and I found really interested to search informations and document myself about it. I was proud of my work because before I would never have been able to do something like that in economy class and moreover in English. For this work, I had a really great mark: 75/100. If you want to read my report, you can find it following this link: Chile Country Report for the Economist.

Lancaster was a really nice city to do this semester abroad. I enjoyed it a lot: not too big, maybe a little bit small but with a lot of charm. There were three places where I went the most during my semester. The first one is Lancaster Baptist Church where I met many of my friends in Lancaster. We went also a lot to the Wetherspoon of Lancaster, with my two roommates, to eat ore more on the evening: Sir Richard Owen. If you go one day in Lancaster, go there: food is really good and not expensive at all! Another place I liked a lot and where I used to go often is the Williamson Park where there is the Ashton Memorial (built between 1907 and 1909 by an industrialist millionaire, Lord Ashton, in memory of his second wife). It was closed to our house and it is a beautiful place from where you can see the sea and all the city of Lancaster.

Here is the last video of the blog, a recap of this semester in Lancaster. As you have already seen all the travels I did in video, they will not be included in this last one. It is only about Lancaster!

Thank you all, a last time, for having read me during all my semester! I hope that you enjoyed to read me and to follow what I did during all this semester!

I hope to hear from you soon!

    Bye!

  • Hi!

For this fifth article about my travels in the UK, I will talk with of the last trip I didn't told you before: in London!

    London

London is located at 254 miles from Lancaster and it takes 3h30 to get there by train. It is the farest place I went to from Lancaster. I went there from the 13th to the 16th March. I have never been there before and it was a great week end. I discovered a lot of places, saw many monuments, and did also a lot of shopping. I did and see so many things that it is impossible to speak about everything. That's why I will show you these 4 crazy days through the following video!

I hope that you enjoyed this article! Thanks for still reading me!

    See you!

  • Hi!

For this fourth article about my travels in the UK, I will talk to you about my trip in Edinburgh!

    Edinburgh

Edinburgh is located at 166 miles from Lancaster and it takes 2h30 to get there by train.

It is the capital of Scotland. The city hosts the headquarters of the Scottish Parliament. The districts of the city are listed as World Heritage by UNESCO since 1995. The old town has preserved its medieval appearance and many buildings from the Protestant Reformation of the 15th century. The new city has emerged in the 18th century as a solution to the overpopulation problems of the old town.

Edinburgh is dominated by its castle with foundations from the 7th century, but the castle was built only on the 11th century and was a formidable fortress in the 17th century.

Besides its castle, Edinburgh has many other monuments such as in Calton Hill with the National Monument and its columns in the style of the Athenian palace, the Hold Observartory House, the City Observatory and the Nelson Monument (commemorating Admiral Horatio Nelson who mourru the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805).

Edinburgh also has Holyrood Palace which was originally a monastery founded by the king of Scotland in 1128. It served as the principal residence of the kings and queens of Scotland since the 15th century as well as Queen Elizabeth II during her stays in Scotland.

The Scott Monument was built in honor of Walter Scott, great writer born in the city. Its architecture is Gothic Revival. It is located in Princes Street Gardens, near Edinburgh Waverley Station. The tower of the monument is 61.1 meters high and a spiral staircase of 287 steps allows to reach a viewing platform near the top. The tower is made of schist from Livingston and its black colour is due to the oil flowing of the stones and atmospheric dust which are stuck to the stones. A statue of Walter Scott, sitting, lies between the four columns of the tower. It was sculpted by John Steell and is in white marble.

The last characteristic of Edinburgh is Arthur's Seat. It is a hill of 251 meters above sea level and at its top we have a 360° view over Edinburgh and its surroundings.

I went in Edinburgh with my flatmates to meet our friends from Esdes who were in Erasmus there. We staid there for three great days (from the 6th to the 8th of March) the  with them. They maked to us a wonderful visit of the city. In the video below you will see some of the places we visited in Edinburgh!
